Argentum is the largest national association representing the assisted living industry. Argentum serves executives of companies that operate professionally-managed communities for seniors.

As an official state chapter, Argentum New York provides a forum to help consumers, physicians, financiers, elected officials, regulators, media, family members and others understand the options offered by assisted living. We know, as you do, that life in assisted living means freedom of choice, independence, security and an active, meaningful life. More and more families are choosing this compassionate and less-costly long-term care alternative for their loved ones and themselves.

Argentum New York members subscribe to a philosophy which offers cost-effective, safe, personalized and quality care; fosters resident independence and individuality; allows residents’ choice of care and lifestyle; protects residents’ rights to privacy; nurtures the spirit of residents with dignity and respect; and involves family, friends and the community.

 

Assisted Living in New York

Prior to 2004, assisted living was neither recognized nor defined in New York State law. Thanks to the leadership and strong advocacy efforts of Argentum, several of its provider members, and consumer groups, the Assisted Living Reform Act of 2004 was enacted. New York’s seniors now have the opportunity to age in place with dignity, freedom of choice, and independence. Since the law’s enactment, Argentum New York has worked closely with the NYS Department of Health (NYSDOH) on its implementation. The Association is represented on multiple NYSDOH work groups, including the New York State Department of Health Adult Care Facility and Assisted Living Task Force, which provided input into the development of NYSDOH guidelines for assisted living, draft regulations, and the final assisted living regulations which were adopted in 2008.

Argentum New York is actively engaged in senior living policy and works closely with NYSDOH on multiple issues, including regulatory reform, advanced technologies, and expanding access to senior living options across New York State.
